Our missions
By federating their strengths and their expertise, teams of SUPORT FHU undertake to respond a priority: seek out and develop innovative solutions in transplantation, personalized and accessible, for and with the patient.
From bench to bed side, the FHU focuses on:
- Ischemia reperfusion
- Organ preservation and pronostic
- Tolerance-rejection and donor-recipient relationship
- Long term transplant survival
This project is based on complementary expertise within the FHU, in terms of molecular biology, pharmacology, virology, experimental models of organ transplantation in the large animal, highthroughput and high‐resolution gene sequencing, proteomics and metabolomics platforms, and an important clinical activity in organ retrieval and transplantation (heart, liver, kidney).
Two top priority research themes are developed:
Axis 1. Optimization, evaluation and conditioning of the donor, organ and recipient
The goal is to identify at the donor, organ and recipient levels the factors influencing the response and the individual tolerance to IR, immune suppressors, their association, and the antiviral drugs.
Axis 2. Personalized patient management in the short and long term
The objective is to set up patient procedures, biomarkers and predictive tools of organ dysfunction in order to treat and prevent it.

The main issues of the FHU SUPORT are:
- the harmonization of patient care
Implement procedures for diagnostic, therapeutic support, education of the patient for a perfect organization of itinary of care of transplant patients, at the regional and inter-regional levels, between the 3 sites.
Set up the pooling and the extension of data bases, biological collections and clinical trial protocols to strengthen industrial partnerships and clinical research of excellence teams. - the translational research
Develop collaborative programs based on the complementarity of expertise between clinical and research teams, and industrial partners on the FHU’s 2 strategic research themes
Develop predictive models of the survival of the graft and improve the clinical procedures and create new research protocols for a better patients’ quality of life,
Stimulate innovation from basic research to clinical applications and medico-economic evaluation and strengthen partnerships with private sector - the professional education
Provide researchers, university staff, clinicians and care-givers a full course of theoretical and practical training, basic and clinical research in our disciplines

- determination of qualitative and predictive biomarkers in the donor, during organ care and in the recipient during reperfusion
- analysis of the role played by inflammation and innate immunity
Axis 2. Personalized patient management in the short and long term
The objective is to set up patient procedures, biomarkers and predictive tools of organ dysfunction in order to treat and prevent it.
- post-transplantation checkups (biological parameters of acute graft dysfunction)
- care for infections and oncogenic processes
- co-morbidity factors (obesity-diabetes)
- patient care following functional graft loss or retransplantation, immune surveillance (allo-immune response, lymphocyte depletion, immune response monitoring) or the systematic use of protocol biopsies.
